Turbo / Alpha Dogg NO NAME sound work-around.

Workaround for Turbo / Alpha Dogg "NO NAME" sound issue.
10/12/11

If MP3 files are added to the Turbo / Alpha Dogg with any additional property data other than the Title of the track (that's what it willshow up as on the remote), then those items and various other sounds mayl be displayed as NO NAME on the remote. This has been verified in all firmware updates 1.2 and lower.  A firmware update to provide a final solution for this problem is being developed, but a temporary workaround can allow sounds to be added and be listed properly prior to that firmware being available.

The workaround involves deleting all the extra MP3 data fields in the file properties of the sound files that are being added to the Turbo / Alpha Dogg.  Note that only the sounds files transfered to the Turbo / Alpha Dogg device need to be edited.  The original sound files can maintain the extra data at their original location.

Please follow these instructions to resolve the NO NAME sound issue:

  1. Make a new folder on the Turbo Dogg via USB and copy your new sounds to this folder.
  2. Right click on the ADDED files ON the Turbo / Alpha Dogg (one at a time....there is no way around this, sorry) and select PROPERTIES at the bottom of the menu.  DO NOT EDIT ANY FIELDS IN THE SOUND FILES THAT CAME WITH YOUR TURBO OR ALPHA DOGG.
  3. Select the SUMMARY tab.
  4. Select the ADVANCED button.
  5. Under the MUSIC section select and delet the ARTIST, ALBUM TITLE, YEAR, TRACK NUMBER, GENRE, and LYRICS fields and delete any text that is in those fields (these fields MUST be blank).
  6. Under DESCRIPTION, delete any text in the COMMENTS field and make SURE the TITLE field has some title in it or NO NAME will also display on the remote.  We suggest that this TITLE be limited to 18 characters so it fully fits on the remote display screen.
  7. Click APPLY then OK.
  8. Do the above for each sound file you have added to the Turbo / Alpha Dogg device.
  9. Unplug the Speaker unit from the USB, power down both the speaker unit and remote.
  10. Turn them back on and they will SYNCHRONIZE.

All the sounds should now be available with proper names.  If this does not resolve the issue, please contact Primos Customer Support.

A text file of the above instructions is available for download below and a document with graphical instructions will be posted as soon as it is available.

Did not work. Even though I delete all info and apply it does not delete the info.  Still [no name].

I will contact you from the Ticket you already have opened.

I spoke with Todd on this issue and it seems he purchased some sounds that did not have ANYTHING in the TITLE field at all (I would consider that VERY unusual for ANY MP3 file).  Once he put a title in that field the Turbo Dogg listed the sound ok.

I will edit the above instructions to indicate you MUST have text in that field or it will also display NO NAME on the remote.

i did the firmware update on my turbodogg and now all of my sounds say no name. but i haven't edited or added any mp3 files. and the firmware update that was supposed to take approximately 1 hour and ten minutes took about 12 hours. I would really like for this thing to work even close to correctly but my remote still freezes and wont work unless im about 2 feet away from the speaker. PLEASE get these bugs worked out because i really dont preditor or crow hunt enough to justify paying hundreds for a foxpro.

You need to submit a ticket as it sounds as if your Turbo Dogg unit is defective in some manner.  Please contact Customer Service directly and they can assist you in the steps needed to get your unit replaced.

Did not work.   Followed the steps exactly and when I click on Properties there are no buttons/tabs that you claim to be there.     Also having problems with connecting/disconnecting  the Turbo Dogg on my computer.

HI, I had the same problem as stated above, most all my sounds files were labeled as no name , I followed instructions as stated above and I got all of my orginal sound file names back, but never got the 2 new ones that I added.

To add to the comment of ,''Andrew Drake" stating,'' there is no  buttons/tabs that you claim to be there'' your not looking hard enough, when you click the properties on  a file,go to details.Than at the very bottom you have in blue, ''REMOVE PROPERTIES AND PERSONAL INFORMATION'', click that and at the  top of the next window, you have an option to select which states,''Remove the following properties from this file'',once thats done, you will see all the little boxs are checked, click ok, DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just to update, I got the names on my new files as well, I made sure as the instructions stated above, to '' make SURE the TITLE field has some title in it'',how you do that is simple add in a word beside the title,"Click properties, click detail, and you will see title, put your curser beside title and you can add a name.

The "NO NAME" sequence did NOT work for me.  I deleted ALL PROPERTIES and the files still show as NO NAME on the Turbo Dogg.

I tried three times.  The only "field" that has any entries is the "GENRE" column and it has "OTHER" in it, BUT, the there is no way to delete it that I have found.  I went through ALL of the PROPERTIES TABS, and such.

If someone knows what I can do different I am all ears!  I am running Windows VISTA

Lonnie did you follow the instructions stated above,as well as both comments I wrote? Deon

The TITLE field MUST have text in it (what the remote will display or it will ALWAYS display [NO NAME]) and it CANNOT be UNICODE text.  It is likely that Windows VISTA defaults to using UNICODE.  There is currently no workaround for this (short of using an earlier operating system like WINDOWS XP to edit and save the file under) and we are working on a firmware update to fix it.

@ Lonnie, Jeffery, other(s) with this problem of renaming files for the TURBO DOGG,

I too had this problem of not getting the above instructions to work. And then I realized that I was not using MP3 files, I was using WAV files. Mp3 works but not Wav. just what I did though....

I have Vista on my computer and was having difficulty with the no name sound. I first was using media player to convert to mp3 format, but after following the directions it still didn't work. I found a free program that worked though. It's called FreeRIP (just use the free version). Be sure to select that you don't want it to find info for your files online (I was using a sounds cd I have), select the files you want to convert, name them accordingly in the track info section and only "title", select those files and rip to mp3, it saved on my desktop, follow instructions to install files on turbo/alpha dog. After go to properties as suggested, click on the details tab, scroll down a little and in the origin section it should say "Encoded with FreeRIP", erase that part and click ok, then proceed for all files you added and our done.

Kudos to J. simonyi.  i downloaded foobar2000.  and under tagging after checking ID3v1  all of my custom sound files uploaded to the alphdogg perfectly.  no "NONAME" issues there.  Easy to use and faster than opening properties on each file.  if you are adding alot of custom files to your caller.  this is the fastest way to go.  i downloaded mine from this safe site.  http://download.cnet.com/Foobar2000/3000-2139_4-10235595.html  thanks again Joseph.  see this page for more  https://primos.zendesk.com/entries/20538033-no-name-sounds-listed-on-remote-after-adding-user-sounds?page=1#post_21434650  scroll down to where J.Simonyi posted. Hope this helps.  I added over 50 custom sounds and it took just a couple click on foobar2000 to have them ready to add to the alpha dogg.
