Adding Sounds to Alpha Dogg (3756) and Turbo Dogg (3755)

Attached is a document with detailed instructions on adding sound files to your Alpha Dogg or Turbo Dogg (Windows based computers).

MAC USERS: Instructions for saving MP3 files from the email links your are sent are available at the link below.  If you require additional assistance, please contact Apple for support.

EDIT: 05/31/12 - We have added a document with instructions to removing Apple Quicktime as MS Internet Explorer's default media player.  Only Quicktime PRO (the paid version) allows for saving of files, so to save web based media, Quicktime (free version) must be removed as the browser's default media player.

Also revised the Installation instructions to cover additional sources for Primos Sounds.

EDIT: 01/07/14 - Revised instructions for the use of the new Primos Sound distribution website ( http://sounds.primos.com

EDIT: 02/13/14 - Revised instructions (v04) due to changes how sounds are obtained from the new Primos Sound distribution website ( http://sounds.primos.com )

I would like to know where I can purchase  Turbo Dogg decoy and the wire from the speaker

Our decoy for the Alpha / Turbo Dogg will not be released until June 2012.

I have added some new sounds to my Turbo Dogg, and some of the files say "no name" once I sync it with my remote. Is there a special format for naming my sounds?

The Title needs to be less than 18 characters (so it fits on the remote display) and it will not currently accept UNICODE characters in the field.   We are working on an update to allow for the newer character set (UNICODE), but the only workaround at this point is to edit the Title with a non-UNICODE operating system or editor.  Note that Windows 7 defaults to using UNICODE characters so a sound generated by Windows 7 would likely be displayed as [NO NAME].  Editing the sound title and applying the change on a Windows XP system should fix this issue.

Again, we are working on a firmware update to correct this issue, but it not finalized and released yet.

I used the work around and had no problems! I don't want to do it every time, but it's better than having no names. Thanks Primos for the fix. Time to go put my buddies FP to shame!

We don't have any additional EXPERT HUNTS available for purchase at this time but we are looking into making them available in the near future.  Sorry, but I don't have any specific details on a time frame or what may be available.

I also thought by reading the outside of the box that I would be able to add sounds from your website with out cost!  VERY misleading.  I paid almost $300 and you want me to pay more?  Not happy about this.

On a brighter spot I got my Alpha Dog home and set it up (I live in the city of Alpena MI but in a sanctuary) and set the cotton tail distress sound up and in less then ten minutes had a fox come into the call twice!!!

@ Nate - Please quote the portion that misled you to think the sounds would be free....I can get that modified (as we would never intend to imply the sounds would be at no cost).

I bought what I thought was going to be a great call, and it was for the first week! Called in bob cats and yotes within minutes! Now my alpha dog sounds horrible very distorted sounding. It kept sounding worse as the night went on then out of the blue it stoped working! Not happy at all!!!!! The company I ordered it from said the alpha dogg was on back order till aprill 19, I could not get one any quicker! What do I do now? Get my money back and go with a different brand or give primos another chance? Chance Wimberly

@ Chance - i see you have a ticket open, but from the description above, this sounds as if you have a bad battery in the speaker unit.  Low battery power or even 1 bad (low) battery can cause amplifier distortion at higher volumes.  Have you replaced all the battereis with known good ones?  Hope this suggestion helps.

I have bought batteries of all different brands and replaced them still no improvement! I am sitting out on the back porch and I swear the coyotes are on the other side of the tree line laughing at me! Chance Wimberly

@ Chance - repond to your open ticket on this site to move the replacement process forward.  Sorry for the trouble you are having but we have had NO reports of the problems you are curently seeing on this product besides low battery issues.

I recently had a problem with my Turbo Dogg and took it back to where I bought it from and bought a new Alpha Dogg. I purchased sounds for my Turbo Dogg and tried to put these sounds on my new Alpha Dogg and can not get them to work.  There are two question marks (??GT_Cottontail Duet) in front of the name and they won't play.  Is there some kind of protection on these sounds to prevent them from being installed on more than one unit?  I really dont want to have to pay for these sounds a second time.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

There is protection on the sounds so they cannot be used on different units.  I have opened you a ticket for this issue and will work to get this resolved.  You do need to provide me with credit / purchase proof and the SN of the new call (please do so in the ticket I opened, not here).

Is there a website yet for the Primos calls where we can just download them and pay instead of calling in, ordering them, then getting an email sent with the files attached?

Not at this time Eric, sorry.  We have sold quite a large quanity of sounds like this and we have never had anyone request a refund based on the sound quality.

Clark-  Can you explain the "no name" Unicode fix in more detail?  I have already uploaded my mp3 files from a windows 7 machine and have the no name issue.  Do I have to upload the sounds from an XP machine or can I just go in and rename them by hooking the unit up to an XP machine with the usb cord?

Shawn - Please submit a ticket and I'll get it assigned to me and help you in there.  The following is definately true about this situation:

    1. You MUST remove the sounds and resync the remote before trying to fix the issue.  The problem is that the remote CANNOT handle the UNICODE text being sent to it properly and unfortunately we will NOT be able to fix this limitation.
    2. Sounds MUST be renamed on system that does not generate UNICODE text in the sound tag fields.  It is possible that this can be done on an Win 7 system if the input of UNICODE can be
    3. The non-UNICODE sounds then need to be added back to the speaker unit and the remote resynced.

This is a VERY complex issue that has to do with various MP3 tagging standards and frankly is beyond the scope of a discussion in this thread.  The above should get you going, but if you stil have issues, submit a ticket and I'll assist you as I can.

    Clark,

First:  To understand you correctly, there will NOT be a firmware update to correct, is that correct?

Second:   I'm having trouble understanding why some UNICODE names are OK and others are not. I have just over 500 predator MP3s of which about 15% upload to the Alpha just fine but the rest are no name. I've renamed all my files twice now, one time on an XP system and the last time on an old Windows 98 system and I'm still having the same issue. I can tell you this, each time I remove the files from the Alpha, resync and reload the same files back on the Alpha, a different set of files names will appear each time I do the upload. Remove the files, resync, reload the same files, resync different names appear and no name on all others.

By your statement above about the "complex issue", a release in a PDF of the MP3 tagging standards would be nice so those of us that understand computers could get some answers

The update will work around the actual issue and WILL be released within the next few months, but NO we CANNOT fix the actual  UNICODE issue as the remote will NEVER read them correctly.

It is possible that YOU are running into some different issue and this cannot be resolved via this thread...PLEASE submit a ticket and I'll work with you to try and resolve it outside of this thread.

Is the update available to allow for the newer character set (UNICODE),  or do we still need to use the work around?  i have no problems synching up with those files that don't have a unicode issue.  for now i'll use the work around on those specific files.  thank you for the above instructions.  the uploading and synching, no hitches.  if the update is available where might we find it?

Per the information above, the hardware on the Turbo Dogg (3755) and Alpha Dogg (3756) can NEVER support UNICODE tagging of sounds and I appologize if I have not made that clear in previous posts.  The remote hardware will simply NOT properly read UNICODE information and cannot be altered on this product to do so.  The workaround given is the only option at this point.
