Turbo Dogg - MODEL # 3755 - Firmware update version 1.3

Compressed ZIP file includes instructions and update files to update the Primos item 3755 - Turbo Dogg to version 1.3 firmware.

Note that if your remote unit displays a SN of the speaker unit it is trying to connect to when you turn on the remote, then both speaker and remote units are already updated to version 1.3.

See the following article for details on update changes: Alpha Dogg and Turbo Dogg firmware update list

EDIT (03/21/12):  Changes have been made to the update instructions to clarify STEP 3 and STEP 4 (updating the speaker unit).

EDIT: (12/18/13) - Make sure to install fresh batteries into both the speaker unit and remote BEFORE performing the update process as the update for the remote firmware can take several hours to complete and the unit could become inoperable if the batteries run out during the update process.

EDIT (01/04/14): Update file has been taken down due to reported issues with updating newer remotes.  Note that this is an older firmware than has been shipping on products for over a year and updating is NOT needed on newer products.  If you have an older product, contact Customer Service to discuss updating options.

I added some comments to the Alpha Dogg update that may also be useful here.  The customer stated that he had deleted old files and wanted to know where the new files that needed to be copied to the speaker unit were located.  I think he was confused about the update files themselves and I wrote the following to try and better explain (I have edited it to make it Turbo Dogg specific):

The 2 new files you need are in the 3755_Turbo_Dogg_V1_3.ZIP file attached to this article.  They are PS000003.UPD (updates the speaker unit to 1.3) and PRT00003.UPD (updates the remote to 1.3).  You will ONLY have older files on the speaker unit storage if you have previously updated the unit and it will likely only be one file ( PRT00002.UPD ) as the speaker unit did not have an update file for v1.2.

Leaving the update files on the unit is ok as long as there is only ONE version present (you can also remove them without a problem after the update has succeeded).  A problem can arise if 2 different versions of UPD files are present as the unit will upgrade and downgrade itself everytime the unit is powered up (or the remote connects to the speaker unit).  That is why it is important to make sure an older version of the UPD file is NOT present when adding a new update files.  Again, your unit may not have these older files if it has never been updated or they were removed after the update.

I hope this was helpful as I know this aspect of the update process can be confusing.

I am sorry I see I originally indicated I have a Turbo Dogg when in fact I have an Alpha Dogg.  My questions and issues are the same, but let me know if the firmware & updates are different.  I'm sorry for the confusion.

For my TurboDog, I did exactly as described in the PDF file.  However, when I powered on the speaker, the lights did not flash, it just powered on.  Then when I powered on the remote, it went directly to syncronizing which took only a few minutes, and the initializing process was skipped completely.  None-the-less, my remote now displays version 1.3 under info.  Assuming my units really were updated and that everything is fine, I think the pdf file needs to be revised to reflect what really happens.

Should I delete the two files on the speaker memory now?

    John,

Your description of events is exactly what would happen if the speaker and remote were already V1.3 and did not need to be updated.   Your untis did NOT update as they did not need the update to begin with.

You can check the remote firmware version in the SETTINGS > INFO display, but there is currently no method to display the speaker unit firmware version (putting the update file on the unit and NOT seeing the flashing verifies that it was already V1.3).

I will see about adding something to the document that mentions the events you experienced so future users will not be confused by them.  Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, you can delete the files.

Thanks, That is probably what happened.  I didn't check to see what version was there before hand.  I just assumed that the unit had older firmware because the datecode on the unit was June 2011.

I updated to version 1.3 and also did not see the flashing light on my speaker.  But, it did "loading update" on the remote.  I'm assuming that I had version 1.1 on my remote as stated in the info section and 1.3 on the speaker already??  Does that sound right Clark?

    Clark Manuel

@ John Mann - I don't see how June 2011 is possible as the product did not start production until Late August.  The date code lot is WWYYYY (WW = week, YYYY = year).

@ Ryank458 - It is certainly possible.  Also, it is possible that the speaker unit updated so quickly you missed the LED blinking (it has happened to me before).

@ Clark Manuel - You are right.  I found the correct date code, it is 502011.  That makes it a unit built just before Christmas.  Probably not a good thing....  LOL!!!  But WAY better than built before production started!  The code I thought was the date code obviously wasn't.  It just looked more like a date code than a wwyyyy type code did.

Thanks again, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

A unit with a 502011 date code would have already had 1.3 on it from the factory.  While I can't be sure, our records indicate that any date code after 462011 should be V1.3 from the factory.

@ Joshua Foster - You opened 2 tickets and one of them was answered wtihin 12 hours. (I just merged the other so there is now one ticket).  You never responded to the questions the agent asked you in the ticket.

I will be happy to answer your question, but I don't understand what you want the remote display to do.  There are no user controllable functions for the remote display other than setting it to a different color theme (there is a night theme that has red lettering on black backround so it is not bright).  The Turbo Dogg display does not auto-dim (that is feature of the Alpha Dogg remote only).

No i never got a responce from anybody.

Page 7 of 13 of the pdf file for the manual. I was under the understanding that you could turn off the backlight on the turbo remote.

I am looking at the ticket and you were responded to.  Please check your junk email as the response may have been filtered as spam mail by your email system.

EDIT (1/30/12) - This feature cannot be added to the Turbo Dogg due to limitations of the remote itself.  We will work on updating the manual to make it clear that this a feature available ONLY on the Alpha Dogg.

    Joshua Foster

a planned addition ? It's already in the manual man

  • Avatar
    Clark Manuel

We apologize for any confusion that may have cause you, but that feature is not available at this time.  I have passed along your concerns about the manual feature list to our design team.

EDIT:  After looking into this issue further, currently this is a feature is only available on the Alpha Dogg (the manual should have a notation indicating that the setting only applies to the Alpha Dogg product).  I am having the design team look into this being added as future feature on the Turbo Dogg, and I apologize for my misinformation in my earlier post.

  • Avatar
    Clark Manuel

I have had the design team look into this issue and the dimming / time delay feature cannot be added to the Turbo Dogg due to hardware limitations of the remote itself.  We will revise the manual to identify this feature as ONLY for the Alpha Dogg.

I edited my above post to reflect this new information and not be misleading.

i have just today purchased my first primos caller, my first question is -- when i look in the expert hunt calling catagory, (opps i guess i should tell you that i purchased a turbo dogg) or folder whatever it is called on the remote controller, it shows that there are no expert hunts availible and the literature that came with it and the box both state that there are 36 sounds and 4 complete expert hunts. question---- where do i find the expert hunts? question #2, how do i know if i need to update to filmware version 1.3 today is 01-30-12,,,, i think.   thank you ,,,,,,and no bicthing yet

ron go to your remote and go to settings, go to info and it will say what version it is.

found it , thank you josh

  • Avatar
    Clark Manuel

@ ron - SETTINGS > INFO gives you the firmware version of the remote software and it should match the speaker unit firmware version.  If you start up the remote and speaker and you get the display that list the remote trying to connect to a specfic SN unit, then the speaker is updated as well.

On the expert hunts issue, you may need to perform a small workaround until we get the next version of firmware released that fixes the issue.  The issue is explained and the steps for the workaround are given in this article:

What decoy are you trying to connect?  We do not currently have a compatible decoy for sale yet (one will be released by July 2012).

I updated my turbo dogg via the provided instructions, and the light on the speaker has continued to flash for at least twenty minutes. Is that bad?

  • Avatar
    AJ

Still won't stop and won't reconnect to pc. Now I can't even reset it to work. Hope that it's not ruined.

  • Avatar
    Clark Manuel

@ AJ - Unfortunately, that is the sign of a failed update on the speaker.  If you power it down (or remove the battery power) and then power it back on and it still only flashes, it will need to be replaced.  Sorry to hear you are having problems but we will get you a working call.  You can opt to exchange it at your place of orignial purchase, submit a ticket on this website or contact Customer Service directly during our office hours to get the exchange process going.

If I opt to have Primos replace it, will the call I recieve be updated and new? What would the turn around time be and how much would it cost me?  If I return it to the store where I bought it, I will have to update it and possibly go through this again.

OK, so I exchanged my defective turbo dogg and got a new one. It has a build date of 352011; I did the 1.2 update and then the 1.3 and it went flawlessly! Now my question is how do I ad my own sounds to my favorites list? It seems that the unit only reads preloaded files for this selection. I am going to try different file placements and see what I come up with.

every since i added the new 1.3 add on, everytime i turn on my turbo dogg it go's right back into scronizing mode. Takes me like 10 minutes before i can use my call every time it's powered on. Any ideas Clark ?
